REMAINS 2017
In this body of work, I was able to express my own anxiety and fear surrounding the condition of our environment. The work is an outward manifestation of these fears, which has acted as a form of therapy for me. I use the remains of plants and animals to express the death and destruction currently facing our planet. The creatures in this body of work come from somewhere in my subconscious, a place that has been greatly influenced by film and literature in the genres of science fiction and horror. I strive to invent work that offers the viewer a sense of something being off or a bit sinister in order to evoke a sense of the danger that I feel we are in. Our beautiful planet provides me with continuous inspiration as well as many of my materials. I am deeply concerned about our environment and my art is an outlet for me to call attention to the peril that our natural world is currently facing.
